Principal's Message

Eric Schubert, Acting Principal

Welcome to 2022-2023 school year at Ecole Airdrie Middle School (EAMS)!

We are a dual-track (French Immersion and English) Middle School, Grades 6-8, operating in the thriving community of Airdrie under Rocky View Schools.

We currently have about 470 students registered, about half of whom participate in the French Immersion Program. At EAMS, our dynamic program for middle level learners takes full advantage of our facility, which includes two gymnasia (one with a climbing wall), mobile technology, a Learning Commons, a specialized Music room, and fully equipped Industrial Arts and Home Economics labs.

We are a PODS (personally owned devices) school which means that we encourage our students to bring to school their personal technology to support their learning, particularly in grades 7 and 8. Our grade 6 faculty will endeavour to slow down the use of technology a little this year, drawing on its use it when necessary, helpful and appropriate for our grade 6ers.

Our school Workbook, the yearly report that uses community, staff and student feedback, has a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, continuing work on student success plans/IPPs, and making Project Based Learning (PBL) one of our instructional cornerstones.  Further, we will continue to make the use of MyBluePrint as a student portfolio a focus area.

Middle School is a dynamic place to be and there are many opportunities for students to take on responsabilities and further accountability for their learning and work while still beign supported by our staff and parents.

We envision providing a balanced instructional approach, stimulating projects, many fun events and interesting initiatives at EAMS to engage students and our community. We want our school to be a caring, safe, energetic and dynamic place to learn.

I will continue to communicate with you in my weekly community updates, usually on Sunday evening, and we will also continue to use Twitter and Facebook as communication tools. In addition, we provide timely information about your child's academic progress via PowerSchool. Please ensure you are reviewing the information provided through the parent portal regularly, ideally with your child.

Please visit your child's teachers' webpages to learn about the way they can be reached and to stay abreast of your child's progress in middle school.

Please reach out to me, should you have questions, suggestions or concerns. We are always open to hearing from our community, wanting to work together to make it a positive place to learn.

Take good care,

Eric Schubert
